Same-day junk removal in Tucson

Same-day is a real thing here, and it is governed by a gate that closes at five. Everything that makes it possible or impossible follows from that one fact.

The clock that decides it

Los Reales is open Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sunday. A same-day job has to be quoted, loaded, driven and tipped inside that window, and the drive is to 5300 E. Los Reales Road south of I-10 — which from Oro Valley or Marana is a real piece of the afternoon. In practice a call before about noon on a weekday has the whole day in front of it; a call at four does not, and a Sunday call means the load either waits or sits on a truck overnight.

A hauler who agrees to everything, at whatever hour, is worth one more question: where is it going tonight. The honest answer on a Sunday is a yard or a locked truck until Monday, which is fine if he says so and a problem if he does not.

What does not, however urgent it feels

A whole-house cleanout is not a same-day job and a quote that says it is should worry you — it is several truckloads, several gate visits and a sort for donations, and the gate shuts at five. Hoarding conditions need a walkthrough before anyone commits to a number. Construction debris, concrete, dirt and rock are charged by weight at $38 a ton rather than by space, so the truck fills by weight long before it fills by volume. And anything hazardous — paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane, car batteries, most electronics — is refused at the landfill entirely and goes to the household hazardous waste drop-off on the same campus, Thursday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

That last one quietly kills a lot of same-day promises. If half the garage is old paint, the paint is not moving today unless today is a Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning. What junk haulers cannot take in Tucson lists every category and where each goes instead.

How to make today likelier

1. Call early and describe the pile by volume. Rooms, truck beds or pallets — not "a bunch of stuff". A hauler routes his day on that number.
2. Say where it sits. Curb, garage, second floor, behind a gate. Stairs and long carries are the difference between two jobs today and one.
3. Pull the hazardous items out yourself and set them aside. They are free to drop off and they are the thing most likely to stall the load.
4. Have the access sorted — gate codes, a parked car moved, a dog put away.
