The Town of Oro Valley’s own FAQ says it plainly: it does not provide or contract for trash pickup. That one sentence explains most of what is different about clearing a house here.

Junk removal in Oro Valley starts from no town service at all

Inside Tucson, the free answer to a garage full of furniture is Brush and Bulky, twice a year at the curb. Oro Valley has no equivalent, because the Town does not run trash collection — its FAQ lists the private companies that operate in town and notes that some homeowner associations contract with one of them for an entire subdivision to bring the price down. Whether you get any bulky pickup at all, how often, and what it costs depends on the contract you or your HOA hold, not on a municipal calendar.

That is why the calls from Oro Valley are rarely “the city will not take this.” They are a couch and two dressers that the trash contract will not take this month, a house being cleared for a move, or a garage that has to be empty before a listing photographer arrives. A hauler prices those by the truck — $150 to $350 for a few items, $300 to $550 for a half load, $600 to $900 for a full one in the published ranges — with drive time on top, because Los Reales is at the far south end of the metro.

Paint, chemicals and old medications from an Oro Valley address

The city’s Household Hazardous Waste drop-off at Los Reales is the only regular outlet in the metro for paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane, car batteries and electronics, and Oro Valley residents pay $15 a visit with a driver’s license or utility bill, Thursday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plan one trip, not three: the limits are 25 gallons of paint and 10 gallons of automotive fluid per visit, which is more than most garages hold.

Medications are the exception HHW will not take. Oro Valley Police run Dispose-A-Med events for pills and powders in their original containers — no liquids, creams, inhalers or syringes — and only at the event location, not at the station. Call the department’s community line for the next date before you box up a cabinet of prescriptions from a parent’s house.

The north side’s own self-haul option

A pickup load from Oro Valley to Los Reales is a long drive with a tarp flapping. The closer gate is the Catalina Transfer Station at 14425 N. Oracle Road, north of town, run by WM under contract with Pima County: Monday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., taking municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, yard and green waste, and scrap metal including household appliances at residential rates. It does not take hazardous waste. Call for the current per-load price before you go; the county publishes the fee schedule separately.

A hauler will usually run a mixed load to Los Reales anyway, because the city’s rates are published and predictable, but for a homeowner with a truck and a Saturday, Oracle Road is the shorter answer for brush and remodel debris.

The HOA question, before the pile goes to the curb

Because so much of Oro Valley is governed by an association, the practical rules on a cleanout are the CC&Rs: how long items may sit at the curb, whether a roll-off may be parked in the driveway, and what is visible from the street. A hauler who loads from the garage in one visit avoids all three. If you are ordering a dumpster for a remodel instead, ask the association first; a week of steel box in a driveway is the sort of thing that generates a letter.
