The Town of Sahuarita moved to centralized collection in 2025 after a request-for-proposals process and awarded the contract to Waste Connections of Arizona. The rate is $22.75 a month, fixed for the first four years, for weekly trash and recycling in standard carts. Every residential unit of four or fewer dwellings is in, regardless of HOA — the Town’s one exception was Madera Highlands, which could finish its existing Republic Services contract before switching. Apartment complexes of five or more units, commercial buildings and construction sites are excluded.

Bulk pickup is built in: one pickup per quarter per zone for each household, scheduled in advance through the hauler and paid for in the monthly bill whether you use it or not. When the quarterly pickup is enough, and when junk removal in Sahuarita means a hauler

If you have a couch and a dresser, can carry them to the curb yourself, and can wait for your zone’s next date, the bulk pickup is the answer and it is already paid for. It stops being the answer in four situations. The timing is fixed by a closing, a lease end or a move. The volume is a house, not a room. The items are inside — a second-floor mattress, a garage packed to the door — and nobody is available to carry them out. Or the material is construction debris, which the program excludes at construction sites and which no curbside bulk pickup is designed for.

Self-haul from Sahuarita: the transfer station on La Cañada

The Sahuarita Transfer Station is at 16605 S. La Cañada Drive, run by WM under contract with Pima County, Monday to Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Sundays. WM lists construction and demolition debris among what it accepts and hazardous waste among what it does not, and lists cash and card as accepted payment. Fees apply by load; call for the current rate and for whether a mixed household load is welcome that day. It is a far shorter run than Los Reales, which is on the south side of Tucson at Craycroft and I-10.

Hazardous waste from a Sahuarita address

Nothing in the town program handles paint, chemicals, propane, batteries or electronics, and the transfer station refuses them. They go to the City of Tucson’s Household Hazardous Waste drop-off at Los Reales, Thursday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed the second Saturday of most months, for $15 a visit with a driver’s license or utility bill showing a Sahuarita address. Make it one trip: the per-visit limits are 25 gallons of paint and 10 gallons of automotive fluid. A hauler clearing a garage should set these aside rather than load them, and will tell you whether he runs them for a fee or leaves them for you.
