Marana landfill hours, cost and free dump days
The Marana Regional Landfill is the one working landfill inside the metro’s town limits. Here is when it is open, what it takes, what nobody publishes about the price, and how to tell whether the drive is worth your Saturday.
Marana landfill hours (and Marana dump hours on Saturday)
The WM Marana Regional Landfill is at 14508 W. Avra Valley Road, Marana, AZ 85653. WM’s own facility page lists these hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon
- Sunday: closed
The phone number WM lists for the site is (520) 329-6888. Saturday is the short day, and it is also the day everyone with a pickup has the same idea, so the line at the scale is longest mid-morning. If you can go on a weekday, go on a weekday. Holidays change hours, so call before a holiday weekend.

WM does not publish a rate sheet for Marana. Its facility page lists hours, the address and the wastes it accepts, and no prices. So anyone quoting you an exact Marana dump fee online is guessing. Call (520) 329-6888 and ask three things: the price for a covered pickup load, whether there is a minimum charge, and the per-ton rate above the minimum.
For comparison, the City of Tucson does publish its Los Reales rates: $18 for a covered load under 2,000 pounds, $38 a ton over that, $10 more if the load is uncovered, plus a $2 fee on every load. The full breakdown is in Los Reales landfill fees: what a self-haul really costs.
How much the dump charges per pound
Landfills charge by the load or by the ton, not by the pound, but the arithmetic is easy. At Los Reales, anything under 2,000 pounds is a flat $18 covered, so the per-pound price falls the heavier the load gets. Over a ton it is $38 a ton, which works out to about 1.9 cents a pound. A pickup of brush weighs very little; a pickup of broken concrete or tile can weigh well over a ton, which is where weight starts to matter.
The scale weighs your vehicle on the way in and on the way out, so you pay for the difference and nothing else. Keep the receipt: it shows the weight and the fee, and it is the easiest way to check a hauler’s quote later.
Marana landfill free dump days: how the schedule works
In past years WM and the Town of Marana have run free public access days at the Marana Regional Landfill, usually announced a week or two ahead through the Town and local news. As of September 2026 no date has been published for the coming season, so there is no schedule to give you yet — anyone listing a 2026 date online is repeating an old one.
The places to watch are the Town of Marana’s own site and its newsletter. When a free day is announced, expect a line, expect limits on what they take (no hazardous waste, usually no tires in bulk), and arrive early. If you have a large load and no free day in sight, compare the fee against a haul-away before waiting months.
What the Marana landfill takes, and what it turns away
WM lists these as accepted at Marana:
- Household trash (municipal solid waste)
- Construction and demolition debris
- Yard and green waste
- Treated wood
- Clean soil
- Inert material: concrete, sand, rock and asphalt
- Asbestos, both friable and non-friable — but removal of it is a licensed abatement job, and it has to arrive packaged and documented, not loose in a truck bed
It does not accept hazardous waste. Paint, chemicals, pesticides, fuel and batteries go to the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off at the Los Reales campus instead, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed the second Saturday of most months. With a Marana address it costs $15 a visit. Check the full list in what junk haulers can’t take in Tucson.
When a dump run service beats a self-haul
Self-haul wins when you own a truck, the load is light and non-hazardous, you have help for the heavy end, and the Saturday is free. It stops winning at the sleeper sofa, the refrigerator, the second trip, a load with paint cans in it that means a separate hazardous-waste run, and the drive out Avra Valley Road and back from Oro Valley or Tucson.
Published ranges for a hauler in 2025–26 put a few items to a quarter truckload at $150–$350, a half truck at $300–$550 and a full truck at $600–$900, with the landfill fee already inside the price. The cost guide lays them side by side. If you would rather not spend the morning in the scale line, one call or the form on this page connects you with one local hauler, named before anyone comes out.
Questions this guide gets asked
Is the Marana landfill open on Sunday? No. Monday to Friday 7 to 4, Saturday 7:30 to noon, closed Sunday.
Can a regular homeowner use it, or only contractors? WM’s page does not say either way. Call (520) 329-6888 before you load the truck; it takes a minute and saves a wasted drive.
Is Marana cheaper than Los Reales? There is no way to know from published numbers, because WM does not publish Marana’s. Los Reales is $18 for a covered load under a ton. Ask Marana for its covered-load price and compare.
When is the next free dump day? None announced for 2026 as of September. Watch the Town of Marana’s site.
Where do I take a tire? Los Reales takes passenger tires at $5 each, ten maximum; Pima County also runs a tire site on Ina Road.
